Into this harsh reality stepped two organizations: Mvulana Foundation Uganda and Literacy Aid Uganda. Their volunteers refuse to accept that these children are beyond help. They come to the ghettos not with lectures, but with patience, chalk, and the quiet conviction that every child deserves a second chance.
In the smiles that broke through, in the soft “thank yous,” and in the renewed sense of possibility, the true impact of the drive shone through
One ordinary afternoon, volunteers from Mvulana Foundation Uganda arrived. They carried more than bags of clothes they brought something far more precious: hope. Led by Eric Yiga, the team moved gently among the children, offering warm smiles and words of encouragement.
many young boys grow up knowing hunger more intimately than a full meal. They scavenge for plastic bottles, sleep in sacks, or wander without a proper plate of food from one day to the next. For them, a warm meal is not everyday routine it is a rare moment of dignity and hope.
“We have engaged both girls and boys in community service, but we are giving special emphasis to the boy child because society has recently neglected him,” Mayemba said. “We believe that responsibility belongs to everyone. Cleaning homes and communities is not work meant only for girls. Boys should also take pride in keeping their homes and surroundings clean.”
By reaching 400 boys, the foundation aims to break poverty cycles, reduce street vulnerability, and foster a generation of educated, resilient men who contribute positively to their communities. This investment yields long-term returns: lower social costs, stronger families, and economic growth.
Together, we can end school dropouts among boys in Uganda and empower them with quality education, opportunities, and a brighter future.
Every Day an Orphaned Child on the street Misses Education is a day lost forever.
