Male Graduates Shine as UCU Celebrates 1,274 at 27th Graduation Ceremony
Uganda Christian University (UCU) on Friday graduated 1,274 students during its 27th Graduation Ceremony, with male graduates delivering a strong and impressive performance across several key categories.
Out of the total graduates, 576 were male students who posted notable achievements, including 42 First Class honours part of a record 102 First Class degrees, the highest number in the university’s history.
The colourful ceremony, held at the main campus in Mukono, was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of UCU. He was joined by Guest of Honour, the retired Archbishop and former Chancellor, the Rt. Rev. Henry Luke Orombi.
Addressing the media, Deputy Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. David Mugawe, congratulated all graduates while highlighting the significant contributions of male students.
“This graduation has the highest number of students who have attained First Class degrees, totalling 102,” Mugawe said, noting the balanced excellence across the 576 male and 698 female graduates.
Tusiime Kagoro Marvin stood out as the Overall Best Male Student, graduating with an excellent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.85 in Bachelor of Business Administration. His achievement underscores the strength of male students in business and management disciplines.
In the sciences, Emmanuel Nsubuga was named Overall Best Sciences Student after attaining a CGPA of 4.79 in the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics programme. His success highlights the growing excellence of male graduates in critical STEM fields.
These male top performers join the broader class of 576 men who completed programmes in high-demand areas such as business, law, education, health sciences, theology, data science, and procurement and logistics management.
University officials praised the male graduates for exemplifying UCU’s commitment to producing well-rounded, ethically grounded professionals rooted in Christian values. Many of the male graduates are expected to take up key roles in driving Uganda’s development in both public and private sectors.
Chancellor Kazimba Mugalu is expected to challenge the fresh graduates — with special recognition of the strong male cohort — to become agents of transformation. He will likely urge them to apply their academic competence and faith-based principles to address contemporary challenges facing Uganda and the East African region.
The 27th Graduation Ceremony further solidifies UCU’s position as a leading institution nurturing talent that combines academic brilliance with strong character. Male graduates, in particular, have demonstrated their readiness to contribute meaningfully to national progress.
As these 576 men step into the workforce alongside their colleagues, their achievements at UCU reflect the university’s success in shaping future leaders equipped for impact.
